A strong start to September for the Moonies
September has started strongly for us with a couple of excellent gigs!
On the 1st of the on the month we made a return to the Barn @Berkeley for an evening bash. It was quite a full-on evening, given that (a) it was really warm in the room we were playing, (b) we knew quite a few guests, with Stu in particular catching up with lots of old school friends, (c), we couldn’t access the stage end of the room so had to carry everything through where guests were finishing their meal, (d) Stu had a bit of a sore throat, and (e) one of our speakers decided to play up during the first set and needed changing with our spare…
Aside from all that, it was a top night! The first dance was “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur, which went well (once Chris had put his capo on!), during the break it was burgers from the burger van outside, and come the end of our live set we were asked to play the last song “Don’t Look Back in Anger” again as the bride had missed it the first time! Like I said, a full on evening…
The following Saturday we headed into Bath and the MacDonald Bath Spa Hotel. This is a big, posh hotel, and it turned out we were playing on the first floor… we decided against the concierge’s idea of taking our gear through the sauna-esque kitchens and used the front entrance, up the stairs/lift and eventually into the room.
Once we were set it was a brilliant night, starting with a specially learned cover of “Lucky” by Jason Mraz for the first dance. The dance floor stayed packed all night, right through to a 2-song encore of “Sweet Caroline” and “Thinking Out Loud” and then the disco took over. For some reason the hotel turned the lights on 10 minutes before midnight, but no-one seemed too concerned as it had been such a great night.
We have the next weekend off before our busy autumn season kicks in – watch this space! And congrats to both lovely couples.
