Moon Loungers on tour in Oxfordshire (kind of…)
Last weekend we just so happened to have back-to-back gigs in Oxfordshire on Friday and Saturday night, so we decided to stay over on the Friday night. Our choice of location was Faringdon, and we plumped for the Bell Inn. Here are Chris and Stu getting comfortable in their room:
Once we’d checked in and changed, there was time for a quick half before heading off to Lains Barn near Wantage for wedding number one. We were greeted by a pleasingly organised wedding co-ordinator, and once we were set up and ready to go we were even provided with some much needed hot food – marvellous stuff.
For the first dance the couple had chosen “Make Someone Happy” by Jimmy Durante – not a song we’d have done full justice ourselves so it was left to the disco laptop to do the honours. The rest of the evening went smoothly, and come the end we were able to play a bit of Queen in the encore before handing over once again to our trusty disco laptop. It was then back to The Bell for a good night’s sleep…
The following day we had a stroll around Faringdon (see above), before setting off for our next venue, this time Friar’s Court in Clanfield. Pre-wedding breakfast we set up the PA system on the stage so it could be used for the speeches, then headed to the Clanfield Tavern – where the groom had very kindly set up a tab for us to get some food! Three baguettes later and we returned to Friar’s Court and finished setting up for the evening party.
The first dance on this occasion was “Ho Hey” – something we’d only been informed of the day before, but not a problem! The rest of the night was absolutely brilliant, with the large number of guests (apparently the whole village of Clanfield had turned out) filling the dance floor and really getting into the party spirit. We naturally obliged with a couple of encores at the end, running the live music right up until the 11.30 curfew and then letting the disco take things up to midnight.
It was then all back in the van and home, a marvellous weekend away completed. Congrats to both couples and thanks to everyone who looked after us!
