Some more brilliant weddings across the South West, and another successful FAB Ball!

The wedding season is well and truly in full swing, which means it’s been a busy time for us.

Going back a few weeks now we made a first appearance at Brockworth Barn, a splendid barn in Gloucestershire. The barn was packed full of guests and – despite having to watch the volume so as not to upset the neighbours – we successfully kept the dance floor full all night. We were due to finish playing live at 11.00, but went slightly over this deadline to squeeze in an encore – definitely worth it…

This was followed by an appearance at the FAB Ball, a charity night that raises money for the Frenchay Afterburns Unit. We’ve played this event every year going back to about 2010, and it’s always a great party. This year was no exception, with loads of guests donating money and dancing into the night.

As we’ve worked with the organisers so many times before, we’ve now got the running of the evening down to a tee, and – as planned – we followed the auction with one long set of a couple of hours from 10.30 – 12.30, played out to a packed dance floor! Well done to Lizzie and the team for another roaring success.

This was followed by a couple of brilliant wedding evening bashes at favourite haunts Wick Farm and Kingscote Barn. At Wick Farm we dusted down “Have I Told You lately” for the first dance, and at Kingscote we played the current first dance of choice “Thinking Out Loud”. Both nights were excellent, with Strawberry Fields caterers looking after on both occasions – so plenty of nice food and a beer to wash it down!

It was then time for a change of pace, with the acoustic duo playing an early evening set at Racks Bar in Clifton, Bristol. With the weather nice and warm, and rain forecast not to arrive until gone 9pm, we decided to set up outside on the terrace. This worked an absolute treat, with everyone sitting outside and tucking in to the barbecue and enjoying a bevvie or two. With the bride being from Finland, there were some very minty Finnish shots on offer – and as Steve was driving it was down to Chris to take one (or two) for the team…

And last weekend we were back on 3-piece evening band duty at Tortworth Court. The first dance was “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis, which we are used to playing as a duo but re-worked it for the 3-piece to excellent effect. Once again the dance floor was busy all night, much to the delight of the bride and groom!

Congratulations to all the couples we’ve played for in the last few weeks – we hope you are enjoying your honeymoons…
