A mid-week wedding at Kingscote Barn, then Saturday night at Winford Manor

A couple of enjoyable gigs to report over the last few days…

First up was a Thursday night wedding party at regular haunt Kingscote Barn.  With temperatures soaring up towards 30 degrees it seemed silly to drag everyone inside for the first set, and so we set ourselves up outside on the patio with acoustic guitars and Stu on shaker.

This was definitely a good decision, with both the guests and ourselves enjoying the al fresco performance amidst the stunning surrounding Cotswold countryside.

During the break we tucked into a splendid packed lunch (see below) before moving inside and finally doing the first dance around 10.00!  Oh well, at least it was dark by this point (normally at this time of year first dances happen in broad daylight)…

Despite it being a school night, most guests found their way onto the dance floor during a lively second set, and we even managed to squeeze in a couple of encores before the 11.30 curfew!  All in all a great night.

After Friday night off we were back on wedding band duty on Saturday, this time heading to a new venue for us – Winford Manor just south of Bristol in sunny Somerset.   The warm weather was still with us, which was a good job seeing as we were playing in a marquee…

In fact, it was a very good job seeing as we couldn’t quite fit Stu in between the dance floor and the back of the marquee – moving the dance floor wasn’t an option, so instead we opened the back of the marquee so he could sit partially outside!

With this problem dealt with, the rest of the night went very smoothly.  The first dance was “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong, and the one thing that sticks out about the ensuing first set was a dog running into the marquee halfway through.  Not any old dog either, an oversized poodle-type thing…

During the second set the dance floor filled up, and during “Sex on Fire” Chris managed to squeeze past Stu and play the song from outside of the marquee – much to the bewilderment of the groom… We finished the set with a rousing “One Day Like This”, followed by a 3-song encore and then disco up until midnight to round off another top night.

As usual we extend our congrats to both couples!
